Rift Guardians is free. The file is hosted on itch.io and on a GitHub mirror: it is the same file in both places.

Windows will show a blue warning ("Windows protected your PC") the first time you open the game. That happens because the game has no paid digital signature. See the step-by-step and why it appears.

It installs into your user folder and does not ask for an administrator password. To update, run the new installer over the old one: your saved progress is not deleted.

No installer: unzip it into a folder and open RiftGuardians.exe. It uses the same saved progress as the installer. It is the best option if your antivirus objects to the installer.

Through the itch.io app

If you install the itch.io app, you can download the game through it. The app installs and updates the game for you.

How to verify the file

The SHA-256 code proves that the file you downloaded is identical to the one we published. On Windows, open PowerShell in the download folder and run:

Compare the result with the code on this page (upper and lower case do not matter). If it is different, do not open the file and let us know. The help page explains it in more detail.

Internet	Not required for the campaign. Online modes need an internet connection; PvP uses UDP port 7778.

Items marked "to be measured" have not yet been tested on low-end machines. We will not publish a number we have not measured.
